Wikimedia UK is the national charity for the global Wikimedia movement. We work with the Wikimedia Projects such as Wikipedia to enable people and organisations to contribute to a shared understanding of the world through the democratic creation, distribution and consumption of knowledge. Wikimedia UK has a strong track record of delivery and works in partnership with leading organisations from the cultural and education sectors and beyond in order to unlock content, develop new ways of engaging with the public, remove barriers to knowledge and enable learners to benefit fully from the educational potential of the Wikimedia projects. The team is currently working with over 50 organisations including Bodleian Libraries, British Library, House of Commons, National Library of Scotland, National Library of Wales, Scottish Libraries and Information Council, Tate, University of Edinburgh and Wellcome Library.

Programme Coordinator[edit | edit source]

We are looking for a dynamic project leader with experience of delivering successful partnerships and events with the cultural or education sectors, and supporting volunteers. You would be joining a small and friendly programmes team at Wikimedia UK, covering a period of sabbatical leave until February 2019 (but with the possibility of extension). Job Description[edit | edit source]

Job Title: Programme Coordinator

Hours: Full time (35 hours per week)

Location: London (Southwark), with occasional travel

Reporting to: Head of Programmes and Evaluation

Salary: £25,000-28,000 pa

Benefits: 25 days annual leave plus public holidays (pro rata). WMUK offers a pension scheme, with a current employer contribution of 6%

Contract: fixed until February 2019 with the possibility of extension

Purpose of job: To lead the delivery of designated parts of Wikimedia UK’s activities by developing and running projects with partner institutions, involving and empowering volunteers and co-ordinating peer learning

Main Duties[edit | edit source]

Programme Development:

  • Seek potential opportunities for new, one-off projects or collaborative working
  • Bring volunteers into potential and existing projects, increasing the engagement
  • Monitor and organise resource for activities (including expenditure)
  • Work with other staff to identify funding opportunities for existing or potential projects, as appropriate

Relationship Management:

  • Actively pursue, setup and manage relationships with partner organisations
  • Act as the main point of contact for specific partner organisations and volunteers and ensure proactive, effective and regular communications with these stakeholders
  • Monitor and evaluate partnership projects
  • Provide support to the Wikimedian in Residence programme
  • Develop and deliver a range of activities, such as Wikipedia editing events, media donations, and conferences

Volunteer Engagement and Development:

  • Encourage the involvement of volunteers in activities wherever possible, and grow the volunteer base
  • Deliver and support the delivery of training to new and existing volunteers
  • Regularly assess training methods and materials in line with changing volunteer and partner needs, in collaboration with the Head of Programmes and Evaluation
  • Support the volunteer grants programme

Monitoring, Evaluation and Impact:

  • Handle documentation and record all relevant metrics against set goals
  • Produce regular updates for the team and senior managers using CRM data
  • Undertake assessment and evaluation of all projects, including collecting feedback from stakeholders, accurate use of CRM and formal report writing
  • Report regularly on programme plans, outputs and outcomes

Communication and Dissemination:

  • Support Wikimedia UK’s social media activities, in collaboration with the Communications Coordinator
  • Identify opportunities to reach the print and broadcast media and liaise with the CEO and Communications Coordinator to write and circulate press releases where appropriate
  • Write blog posts, create case studies, and generally contribute to the promotion and dissemination of our work and impact
  • Support inter-chapter collaboration in knowledge sharing
Experience[edit | edit source]
  • Experience of working in partnership with cultural and/or educational organisations
  • Experience of managing partnership projects
  • Experience of organising events
  • Experience of working effectively with volunteers and supporting volunteer development
  • Experience of developing and/or delivering training (desirable)
  • Experience of budgeting, allocating resources and seeking additional funding to support activities (desirable)
Skills and Abilities[edit | edit source]
  • Fully fluent and literate in English
  • Passionate about the aims and values of Wikimedia UK
  • Excellent software skills, including CRM databases
  • Flexible approach, with the capability to identify and manage opportunities and risk
  • A high level of initiative and self-motivation, with good time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing, good reporting skills
  • Good relationship management skills
  • Good problem solving, numeracy and analytical skills
  • Familiarity with editing Wikimedia projects is desirable, although training can be given
