Wikimedia UK has a number of trainers who run training events on a wide variety of topics, ranging from the basics of how to edit Wikipedia to more advanced topics such as running bots on Wikipedia.

Trainers are based in a variety of locations around the UK.

How to get a trainer to run an event for you[edit | edit source]

Thinking of running a Wikipedia training event at your institution, but aren't sure of where to start? Are you thinking of running a course that may include improving Wikipedia as part of the assessed work, but would like some guidance on complying with Wikipedia policies? Or perhaps you have your own idea of how to put a trainer to good use!

  • Contact the Wikimedia UK office by emailing or telephoning 020 7065 0990.
  • Send an email to the Wikimedia UK public mailing list,, detailing your event, and ask for volunteers.
  • Browse the list of trainers by location to see if any trainers are near to you, and contact one of them. Please note that this list is not exhaustive.

Event arrangements[edit | edit source]

Wikimedia UK trainers do not charge a fee for running training events. Depending on the kind of event you are running, the trainers may require each attendee to have a computer available to use (either their own laptop, or the training event may be run in a computer room).

Accreditation[edit | edit source]

As part of an initiative to ensure consistency in the training that is offered, Wikimedia UK organised a series of workshops to give trainers the skills they need to effectively train. Upon completion of the course, trainers were awarded an accreditation to certify that they are fit to run training events. Some of these accredited trainers are listed here.
